How does Physical Literacy help your athlete?

If you are a parent with kids in sports, you might be wondering “How is all this talk of physical literacy going to help my kids? I mean shouldn’t my kids just spend more time playing their sport?

Sometimes when kids specialise in only 1 sport, they can sometimes develop ‘movement gaps’. Meaning they miss out on other really important foundation movement skills – like jumping, hopping, skipping, tumbling, climbing etc.

Having a broad foundation of movement and physical literacy gives them an advantage over those in their sport who are not learning these skills. An advantage physically yes, but also in their confidence and competence.

Physical literacy is more than just an important component for young athletes - it is a necessary foundation for growth!
