How vast is your child’s movement library?

What does that mean?
It means, the more hours of free play, of just being active and moving and coming up with ideas on what to do physically (free play), gives your child a larger movement experience, a larger movement library, than the kids that have had very little outdoor activity & free play.

How naturally, do your kids jump, hop, skip, roll, fall, tumble, run, climb, and hang?

The larger the kids movement library
  • The more likely they are to try any physical activity and be motivated to want to be physically active and get out and play.

The larger the kids movement library
  • The higher their confidence in themselves to even try new things that they’ve never tried.

The larger the kids movement library
  • The more likely they are to progress and push through when things are a little bit difficult. The more likely they are prepared to practice to get better at this new movement skill.

So of course the opposite happens…. when a child has a very low competence in movement skills and a very small movement library
  • They’re less likely to want to even try or get out and be active because they might not be able to do it. It might make them feel bad about themselves, it might make them feel embarrassed, so they may as well not try.

What we find in our Fit2SHiNE Program, after a very smaller amount of time, 6-8 weeks is
  • the kids have small wins, boosts in confidence, and are adding to this movement library of competence week after week.

Because of this, I get parent calls saying things like
  • Oh my God, my child came home from the athletics carnival and actually entered some events. It’s the first time they’ve ever done it.

This is because we increased their movement library.
We increased their confidence that they can learn, new movement skills and that they can progress.
What we achieved here?
Was a child building a motivation and an internal desire to actually want to be active. And a self-belief they can try! Purely by increasing their movement library.

Our goal at Fit2SHiNE ‘is not’ just to teach kids to lift weights safely… (yes we teach foundation functional
strength training movement patterns) Our goal is to do what’s best for kids – ‘the whole child’ - To have the broadest movement skill library and experience – so that - they have the choice in their life to do whatever ever sport or activity that they desire at any time, at any age, and grow up into healthy, confident active adults.
