People often ask me why I started Fit2SHiNE...
|
The answer is actually pretty simple...
I wanted to make a real difference. Not by creating elite athletes. Not by chasing trophies. But by helping children build healthy habits, confidence and a love of movement that lasts a lifetime. What breaks my heart is seeing how different childhood has become. Kids are surrounded by ultra-processed foods that can impact not only their physical health, but also their energy, mood and ability to concentrate. At the same time, screens have quietly replaced so much of the spontaneous play that used to fill afternoons. Climbing trees, riding bikes, inventing games with friends and simply moving because it was fun is becoming less common. Every child deserves the chance to discover what their body is capable of. When children walk into Fit2Shine, my hope is that they instantly feel like they belong. A place where they're accepted. A place where it's okay to make mistakes. A place where they can celebrate the smallest wins, because those small wins become confidence. I've seen time and time again that when a child becomes stronger physically, something else begins to change too. They stand a little taller. They believe in themselves a little more. They become more willing to have a go. And that confidence doesn't stay in the gym. It follows them into the classroom, onto the sporting field, into friendships and, I hope, into the adults they'll one day become. If I can help even one child leave believing, "I can do hard things," then everything we've built at Fit2Shine is worth it. |
